Obstetric fistula (OF) Prevention/Repair Campaign, Pakistan 

BACKGROUND:

• Unavailability and inaccessibility of  Obstetric  care service.
• High Fertility
• Early marriages
• Poverty &
• Lack of education

leading to Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF)  and Rectovaginal Fistula (RVF)

 

FISTULA  END CAMPAIGN:

Pakistan National Forum on Women’s Health (PNFWH)  in collaboration with UNFPA  engaging in a campaign to end fistula  since last  six year

 

OBJECTIVE:

•  Service delivery through surgical treatment for women living with Obst. fistula,
• Enhancing Treatment Technical Capacity
• Enhancing Accessibility of Patient to Quality Surgery
• Awareness and Promotion of Safe Delivery
• Rehabilitation of fistula patient to live with dignity

PROJECT SUPPORT:

•  7 regional fistula centres providing free fistula treatment
•  6 referral centres
•  Training of Health care providers
•  Providing surgical equipment
•  Creating awareness through community level seminars
•  Organizing outreach surgical camps in remote areas

Learning Objectives:

1.Discuss the severity of Genital Tract Fistula disease and emphasize on implementation of effective interventions to reduced obstetric fistula.
2.Treat and Help poor women with fistula disease to restore their dignity & give them another chance to live free from shame and pain.
3.Primary health care and education are the key factor related to safe Motherhood and prevention from Obstetric Fistula

 

Future Strategies:

• Capacity building of Midlevel health care providers for task shifting.
• Promotion of modern methods of family planning practices through behavior change  communication at the community level.
• Promotion of women’s right and health issue  including discouraging early  child marriages.
• Rehabilitation and reintegration of fistula  patient in the community.
